*Job Summary*
Minnesota State Services for the Blind (SSB) has been serving
blind,
visually impaired and DeafBlind Minnesotans since 1923. It does
so with a
staff of 110 dedicated personnel, over 650 skilled volunteers, an
active
State Rehabilitation Council for the Blind and a host of
community
partners. Each year SSB assists thousands in leading full,
active and

This position will provide adaptive/assistive technology-specific
solutions, personally customized training materials and intensive
individualized customer training to seniors with vision loss.
The
incumbent will provide expertise in the areas of blindness
technologies,
technology instruction, development of curriculum materials,
implementation
of training and technical support to blind and visually impaired
Minnesotans in need of independent living assistance. The
successful
candidate will need to have the knowledge and ability to
interface with the
following systems and applications:
-Applications/Programs/Software
-Operating Systems
-Personal Computers
-Personal Devices (smartphones, tablets, iPads, iPods etc.)
-Organizational systems
This position also trains and updates SSU service providers,
community-based agencies, partners, and other interested persons
in
utilizing and adapting information systems and developing
assistive
technology solutions for blind and visually impaired seniors and
independent living consumers.
Travel is Required.
*Qualifications*
*Minimum Qualifications:*
Four years professional experience performing assistive
technology services
in an organization (public or private) whose mission includes the
provision
of services to persons who are injured or disabled so that an
understanding
and sensitivity toward people with disabilities has been obtained
OR
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or an education field
AND one
year of experience with assistive technology
Effective oral and written communications sufficient to provide
program
information and explain program rules and procedures, and write
memos and
case notes sufficient to provide clear and concise information.
Ability to express compassion and hope to visually impaired
senior customers
Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend information
Computer skills demonstrating proficiency with a range of
assistive
technology solutions
Ability to collect and analyze information
Ability to work independently
*Preferred Qualifications:*
Experience working with persons with visual impairments
Experience working with seniors
Knowledge of blindness vision issues
Experience and practice with teaching adult learning techniques

This position will provide overall statewide coordination of
State Services
for the Blind (SSB), Senior Services Unit (SSU) rehabilitation
training
provisions for customers. This position will also provide
logistical
support, coordination support and in-person, direct
rehabilitation training
services.
Job Duties:
-To provide individual and group instruction to SSU customers in
adjustment
to blindness skills training. The instruction will be in all
manner of
skill development related to activities of daily living.
-To perform all coordinating and logistical activities to allow
SSU
consumers to engage in training with SSB's master contracted,
certified
adjustment to blindness, orientation and mobility and assistive
technology
vendors.
-To provide for the collection of quantitative, qualitative and
spending
outcome date related to the effectiveness of training services
provided by
SSU to support independent living goals for consumers.
Travel is Required.
*Qualifications*
*Minimum Qualifications:*
- Bachelor's Degree in education, rehabilitation,
occupational therapy
or related field *OR*
- 5 years' experience providing instruction in adaptive
techniques for
persons with disabilities
- Experience working with seniors
- Experience with adult basic education
- Experience providing coordination and logistical support for
instructional or social service programs
*Preferred Qualifications:*
- Accreditation from Academy for Certification of Vision
Rehabilitation
& Education Professionals
- Certification in Orientation and Mobility Instruction
- State of Minnesota Authority for Local Purchasing (ALP)
certification
- Experience providing rehabilitation teaching to seniors
