Hi all,
Just tried the new Narrator in windows 10, version 1809, and here are
some observations:
1. It still does not work with Thunderbird. I was able to press control
n for new message, and type in the first letter of a friend in my
address book, and I was able to type in the subject, but when I tabbed
down 1 time to the body of the message, it was not spoken that I was in
the message body.
2. In Internet Explorer, and in Microsoft Edge, Narrator has this
problem that it doesn't stop at the top of the page. If you up arrow,
you'll go into a bunch of tool bars, like the address bar, and settings
bar, and different bars, and different tabs. However, the h for headings
works fantastic!
3. I absolutely, love, the built in user guide for Narrator. When you
start Narrator, the user guide pops up. Folks, this user guide is
*FANTASTIC*!!! They really put a lot of work into it, and I took it for
a spin, and it reminds me of the voiceover user guide on the Mac!
One of these days, and I hope it's soon, a blind computer or tablet user
will be able to just walk up to any windows computer or tablet, press
control windows key enter and use Narrator as their full time screen
reader, and I sure look forward to it. That way, I won't have to worry
about how many keys I have left for some screen reader!
I also hope someday that I will be able to on my own, without sighted
help, install windows from scratch!
I'm just waiting to find someone who is using only Narrator as their
only screen reader!
