While I don't use JAWS at home, I regularly use Thunderbird with NVDA. I 

also have noticed that trying to edit the text in a forwarded message is 

nearly impossible and so I don't believe this is a JAWS-specific issue. 

I am curious to see how it behaves with Window-eyes and I'll try that 

out, as I have the free version installed for users of Office. I like 

Ana's workaround of turning a reply into a forward, however.
