When I want to adjust the volume level:
* I go into the system tray with Windows+b or ins+F11.
* I down-arrow to the volume slider.
* I press the space bar to activate the slider.
* I arrow up or down to the level I want.
* I just press windows+m to exit and go to the desktop. Sometimes I
press space before doing that. In either case, the volume level stays put.
