Harry,

I would not blame the screen readers but the I T folks who coded the page. I will share with you a positive experience I had with a similar situation. I was going to donate some money to Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. When I used Jaws to try to find the donate link, I could not find it. All the links were coded just to say click here. So I called Lincoln Park Zoo & explained the situation, suggesting the person I talked to communicate the problem to their I T department. Within 5 days, I got a call back asking if I would mind checking out the site again to see if it was fixed. Sure enough, all the links were now labeled. Now you can say they only did this as they wanted my donation. Well, the site you are talking about wants your money too. Some I T folks simply don't know about screen readers even though you would think they should. I'd suggest calling the company & nicely explaining your problem.

Good luck,
Sherry

Subject: [VICUG-L] don't have time to stay on the phone for an hour, but cannot use any screen reader on a company web site

Hi all,

Using jaws 18.0.4534, Narrator, NVDA 2017.4, and windows 10 creators update version 1709.

I am so angry right now. I'm on a web page for a company, and no screen reader works right. Jaws, no matter what I do, will not, and I mean not, let me click on any link on the page to any product.

Narrator, will not, let me click on any link, nor will it let me ad any web page as a favorite in IE.

Narrator gets lost on the page, who knows where.

All the heck I want to do is, go down the darn search page of results on their web site, look at each product web page and read the description for each product, then, save the web page for each product I want, by ading it to my favorites.

so then, I can call up the company, and order 1 product a week.

Now folks, you know as well as I do, that these customer service people don't have an hour to spend on the phone with me, and can you blame them? I can't, and I'm not mad at them.

I'm mad at these crappy screen readers!

None of these **** screen readers are doing anything.

I don't want to tell you all what the page is, this is personal stuff.

Sighted people don't have this problem, they can click on something and save the darn web page to their favorites.

I still cannot use Google chrome because of their crappy bookmarks because their system still doesn't work, so, all I have is IE, because it is the only browser where I can edit, or delete, bookmarks.

This has got me very angry right now!

What I'm angry about is, I cannot do this stuff myself, and I will need their help, and I should not need to bother them.

they will not spend an hour with me on the phone, clicking on each product and reading it to me, so I know it is the product I want to order, and can you blame them? I cannot, they should not have to spend hours on the phone with me, I should be able to read all this stuff myself, but I can't! That, is what has me angry right now, I should be able to do this stuff myself!

. That's what has got me mad. I'm not mad at them, I'm mad at these pieces of crap screen readers, all of them, all 3 suck, right now!

I got 4 product web pages saved, out of 210 product web pages.

Does anyone know what the heck I can do? My thinking right now is, (even though I haven't done it yet, I'm thinking about just getting rid of all of them that I do have. If I can't order all the products I need from this web site, I won't order any.

Harry
