Subject: [tek-talk] New Beta Testing opportunity
To: Tek talk Discussion <[log in to unmask]>
Hi,
While at CSUN, Larry and I stopped by the Spectrum Charter booth.
We have spectrum on our tv and wanted to comend
them on the great steps they have taiken recently
to make their box completely accessible.
While there, they told us about a new app now in beta called Spectrum Access.
This app is not for just spectrum customers, its
for anybody who wants to use it regardless of
which tv or cable provider you have.
Spectrum Access is now in beta and here's how it works.
It is an app you would download to your phone and
it provides audio descriptions of moveis in real time.
So, if you wanted to watch a movie, you would
open the app and see if its one of the movies available in their library.
You would download the movie and its audio description.
You would start the movie on your TV and the
audio description file on your phone would sync
with it and you would have complete audio
description as you watched the movie.
If you remember the Disney Movies anywhere app
from a few years ago, this is the way they used to work it.
Spectrum Access is now working with movie studios
to get audio descriptions of their movies.
As I recorded this discussion on March 12, they
had about 90 moviesin their library.
They expect to have over 500 movies in a couple
of weeks and significantly more movies available
once they go live with the app.
they are aiming for an August release app date.
they also do want lots of beta testers.
If you are interested in talking with John Sweet
send him an email.

He will send you a link to the Beta.
In his email to me, he wrote:
Spectrum Access is a brand new app from Spectrum
that offers audio description and closed
captioning for on demand movies and TV shows. All
you need to do to is find the movie you want in
the app and download the track that interests
you—audioo description or closed captioning. Then
play the movie or show on your TV using any
service, whether that is Spectrum or Xfinity or
Cox, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, or even a DVD.
Press play in the Spectrum Access app and hold
your phone or iPad near your speakers; the app
will listen to the movie and within seconds it
will sync up perfectly and start playing your
audio description or closed captioning track.
Please reach out if you have any questions. We hope you enjoy your experience!
Thank you,
John Sweet
