Hi all,
Well folks, I've discovered that it's not just google chrome that
doesn't let you do first letter navigation in things like bookmark
lists, (yes I have looked online and did not find anything about first
letter navigation).
Microsoft is also now, not letting you use first letter navigation in
windows.
How do I know this? just press windows key and the letter x to open the
quick access menu, and type the letters sh and you'll not be able to get
to the shut down option in that menu, unless you have time to down arrow
15 times, to it.
But Google and Microsoft think that consumers don't do anything all day,
so, they have time to down arrow through 100 things, well, I don't, and
probably, most of you, if not all of you, don't either.
I fear what is coming in 2 different areas:
1. Eventually, whether you are blind or sighted, you will not be able to
use first letter, or, multiple letter navigation in menus, or, in lists
of files, that's if you're using windows that is.
Now sighted people can see what icon they want, and click on things with
a mouse, instantly, we cannot.
And Microsoft doesn't give a rats but about it folks, they absolutely don't.
My friend, Mike, a few years ago, was a very, very, busy, man. His
sister had the nerve to say, "disabled people don't do anything all day,
so you have time to sit there an wait for phone calls from me."
That's how Microsoft and Google think. They think you and I have all
day, to down arrow through things, for who knows how far down a list,
and folks, you and I know that all the people on this list, are very
busy folks, and we don't have time to sit there and down arrow through
menus. Now people have said to me, Harry, go to Apple. I've tried that,
with disasterous results. Every time you install something on a mac, you
have to use your apple ID, I know that's the case, because that's what I
had to do when I had my Mac, and voice over screwed itself up at
different times, and that was absolutely frustrating.
2. Eventually, we can forget about using the internet. I don't know how
many of you know this, but this Thursday, the FCC is going to get rid of
net neutrality, that's not an opinion, that is a fact, it's going to happen.
When that happens, comcast, at&T, and verizon, will determine, what
pages you go to, and what you watch, and what you listen to, on the
internet. We will have fast lanes, and we will have slow lanes, and we
have no choice in this, the fcc is not listening to anyone right now,
about this issue.
Now, I'm not coming at this second point as a blind user, I'm coming at
this as a consumer.
All these big corporations are saying to us all today, this is the
technology you get, either get use to it, or get out.
What really hacks me off is, these companies don't listen to anyone
today, they're all guilty of it, name me 1 company that does, in
technology, you won't find any.
And I don't want to hear anyone out here say to me, "oh well Harry, get
use to it."
They all think we're just a piece of crap. These companies run the
world, and we're suppose to just go along to get along, I won't.
I bet the day will come when we truly won't have a computer, or
internet, the internet will be first, and that will be soon, for many.
I don't think consumers, (disabled or not), should just sit here and
take it. We need to raise **** and not take it, some how, some way.
As someone wonderfully said on this list a while back, that the world
will continue to be that way, more and more. They speak the truth, but
let's get mad as you know what, and fight!
Harry
