Two other points for this discussion.  We don't have to worry about 
relying on equipment that can be costly and may malfunction or run out 
of power when we most need it.  Also, many of our adaptive devices 
require more maintenance than a good old brailler, although they may 
cost less initially to purchase.  Also, you don't have to always wonder 
what was said when you can read things for yourself when that's 
possible.  Synthetic speech still mispronounces and garbles enough 
material that I don't comprehend it as fast as I do things I read in 
braille.

That's my thoughts on this.  I look forward to reading more tech stuff here.
