It eliminates the selective fade distortion on A.M. signals.
I think it does by selecting a single sideband but I am not sure if I have
the technology right.

Great little receiver. I have one and use it to listen to the HF ham bands
when away from home. In mine, the RF and AF gain controls seem to get dirty
quite easily, although others I know who have this radio have not
experienced this problem. It also has a sync detector that is pretty decent.
