Alleged Assailants Threaten To Attack State House(BBC)
According to the BBC network Africa programme , a letter was receive from a
person/persons reported to be the attackers of the Central Bank recently in
which they threatened that they will attack state house next time . when
contacted by BBC to comment on what took place when the central bank was
attacker , the Secretary of state for interior , Ousman Badjie , said a
group of people attacked the bank three weeks ago and that they managed to
escape . Badjie added that they were still investigating the incident, and
had managed to get somebody who volunteered to give little information, and
we are working with him.
BBC: how reliable is that person?
Badjie: he is reliable because he volunteered to come and give us
information, and we are working with him
BBC : what o you really want to have?
Badjie: we want to know what was their motive, what o they really want and
where they are presently-on 24 hour patrol and making sure that
we trap them anywhere we can.
BBC: minister I would like to inform you that we received a letter which is
not signed, from one of these people claiming to be part of
those who took part in the attack. The letter stated Warning!
Warning! Warning! This is a serious warning to president Jammeh and
the people of Gambia in general that what happened at the central bank on
Sunday 19 th December should warn you enough that there is no
security system in the Gambia?
Badjie: that is absolutely wrong, the security in this country is quit
satisfactory. These people are free to come whenever they want
to, and it will be proven beyond reasonable doubt that this
nation is secured. Let them come we are waiting for them. We will not
compromise the security of this nation. Whoever wants to come and disrupt
the peace we enjoy will pay a high price.
BBC: the person who wrote this letter continued by saying " we want Yahya
Jammeh to change his destructive an flamboyant way of life
or we will take up state house in our next attack."
Badjie : saying that Yahya Jammeh should change his destructive and
flamboyant life is
erroneous . He is living in a very modest life. "I do not see
any reason why he should
change that modest life. If they are courageous enough or mean
what they are saying why can't they come in the daylight and
face the security
.
