NVDA will work fine for what you will do on that system.

the Portage county club is setting up a machine and radio at the club site
for me and another blind member. They use N3FJP for their contest logging
software. Are there any access issues we need to be aware of and let me
know if that question was phrased too broadly.

Mike:

This is really interesting, and don't feel guilty. ... I know I have done
the same thing a number of times myself when logging in a contest.

In the heat of the contest, the urge is to keep going as fast as possible,
which means waiting for something to happen often takes a back seat.

When I get back home, I'll try to do some experimenting to see what happens
with the various N3FJP logging programs on my ham radio logging computer.
Of course, my experiment may not be totally accurate, since it is an older
Windows XP computer, but it's at least worth looking into..

Thanks for sharing this.

Several people, including N3FJP himself, pointed me to the problem.
I would move to that field, then begin typing before the voice of my screen
reader had a chance to tell me it was already filled.

That's a somewhat rambling way of saying I was simply in too big of a hurry
to listen to what the screen was trying to tell me.

My dad is up there somewhere laughing and saying something like:
"Didn't I tell you about taking your time a long time ago?"
