Don't know what is considered "acceptable for the 590, but the TCXO for
higher frequency stability is optional (was standard on the TS-2000).
There was a long recent thread on the TS-590 list about the
risks/rewards of buying the knockoff TCXO board from China as opposed to
the expensive unit from Kenwood. I *think* the Kenwood part has to
be soldered in, while the Chinese knockoff is a plug-in replacement board.
I think someone from this list went the Chinese route, but I'm not 100
percent sure, so I won't out him here.
