I do have a number of sets of headphones around here, so I'm game for that
suggestion.  Plus, it may keep other QRM at bay as well, although to be
honest, my XYL being a ham, is pretty good at knowing what kind of QRM I can
tolerate and when while contesting and such!!!  (smile)

And,I promise:  I won't do anything crazy when checking for cover tightness.
Was actually just going to check all screws for general tightness--not going
to take the cover completely off.

I'll look around here for some padding, or little carpet pieces too.

What else can one do on a Saturday night here in foggy, rainy, and cold
Central Lower Michigan!

Best cure for odd noises in the shack is a good pair of headphones.

It won't kill you to check  and see if things are tight inside,  unless you
leave it plugged in while  waving a screwdriver around in there, then it
just might kill you.


Just getting the cover off and back on may  change things, maybe even for
the better.

I would also follow the earlier suggestion of putting something under 
the feet.   It doesn't have to be a big thing, just little  circles of 
whatever under each foot.    Little half dollar size pieces of carpet 
padding or whatever you can swipe  when your wife isn't looking.


Hum seems to be the nature of the beast with the Astron's, and some seem to
be worse than others.
