Hi Ben!

Depending on your budget and whether you want to use a PC for commanding the
radio, Kenwood and Elkraft these days score the highest for accessibility.
For VHF/UHF, Kenwood also gets high marks, but you may find a chaper option
such as the Baofeng UV5R will do nicely.

How much space do you have for antennas? That is more important than a radio
you choose because the finest radio won't get you far if you have crap for
an antenna with a good match. You will be studying this business of SWR and
antenna matching in your general question pool, so pay attention to it, and
you'll be rewarded with more success in your operating results.

Good luck with the general test and hope to catch you down the log.'

For logging, N3FJP's range probably enjoys the highest success with users
here, but then the access is more about a combination of the access tools
and your own skills that you bring to the party, hi hi.

Subject: upgrading to general soon

Hi all,
I will be upgrading to general soon so, am wondering, What is recommended
as far as accessible radios for hf goes, and what about logging software?
Any recommendations on either of these would be greatly appreciated. Have a
great day.

Kind regards,
Ben, (KD8tIG)
