I just did it, and a long press of the button is not necessary.

Just haven't done it for a while, I guess.

Just hit the split button .  It toggles between split and normal.

In case you are hitting the wrong button: The split button is the=

leftmost of the second row of buttons to the right of the tuning knob= .
