That's true.
I have to run revo uninstaller, after I update anything.
Often I find google toolbar and google crome have been installed with out a
program's installer saying a word about it.
Ask toolbar and rarely yahoo toolbar are also things to look for.
You never know how many things get snuck in.
Remember how many programs you have installed, so you can see if that number
increases.

Yes, that's what I now believe, since dropbox was automatically running and
importing stuff from my working thumb drive constantly, whether I wanted it
to or not. Changing the auto-play option to "take no action" seems to have
solved the issue, at least so far as I can tell.

This stuff seems to be getting more complex and challenging to manage all
the time, especially when things automatically happen, often without your
knowledge.

So it wasn't dropbox, it was windows?
Interesting, and worth remembeering.

Dave:

I have quite a few suggestions that I have saved for future reference, but
here is what seems to have ultimately fixed the problem. Keep in mind that
I'm using Windows 7 on this particular computer.

I know you can be much more specific with all of this, in terms of
customizing preferences for particular types of media and programs, but I
have decided to keep it simple at this point.

1. Press Windows key and type the following into the Start menu search box:
autoplay

2. You will land on the following setting:
"Use AutoPlay for all media and devices check box."
You can uncheck this checkbox, and whenever you place a CD, DVD, thumb
drive, external hard drive, etc, Windows will not show the screen which asks
you what you want to do with the media you've just placed into your
computer's drive nor will it take action on the attached media.

Hi Tom!

What are the steps? The problem sounds familiar but old age is creeping in
so I can't remember how I got around it. The refresher won't hurt.

Thanks in advance.

73,
Dave

Hello, all.

I just wanted to let everyone know that my recent problem with Dropbox
automatically importing photos from my working thumb drive when inserting
the drive into the computer has been solved.

Thanks to everyone who provided all the helpful suggestions.

If anyone else needs help with this issue, please let me know, and I'll send
you the steps that worked for me.
