any height at all will improve performance on VHF and UHF.
I'm not overly familiar with the mounting hardware or adapters on a satelite
dish, but you should be able to come up with something with a quick trip to
the hardware store if it doesn't work out of the box.
I would pull the dish itself off the mount and attach the base of the
antenna directly to the existing mount...make sure the mount is securely
fastened to the building...IE tighten up screws/bolts etc.
20 to 25 feet is a vast improvement over say a couple feet off the ground.
If you can figure out or jurry rig the mounting etc then yes, it's very
feesible and worthwhile.

I'll bet if there's a problem, it's with how well the mount is fastened to
the building. I'm using a satellite dish mount for my Jetstar duobander,
and it works fine.

Subject: antenna mounting question

Hello List:

I am currently situated in an apartment(one story), and was wondering about
the feasibility of mounting a vertical, dual band antenna(Comet gp-3 model
for example) to a disused, non-rotatable sattelite tv dish which I'm told is
attached to the building's roof. I believe that the antenna is close to 6
feet in length, and roof is 20-25 feet high. Has anyone had some practical
knowledge of doing this, and would it be a worthwhile endeavor for a dual
band transceiver base station?

Not sure of length/type of coax run I would need to where I hope to locate
my "shack". Any suggestions/advice welcome.

Best regards,

David S. Pearson-wa4dsp
