Jim, Allan,
I bought a Flex 1500 several years ago when they first came out. I spent
some time starting to write Jaws scripts for PowerSDR (the Flex software)
but never finished. I also had a USB DJ console and had the knobs and
buttons controlling the Flex.
Conclusion: I do think it's possible for a blind ham to use a Flex but it
will require either significant Jaws (or other screen reader) scripting or a
completely separate rig control program to do everything via CAT commands.
In the end, I decided I wanted to operate more than I wanted to write
software so I sold the Flex 1500 and bought an Elecraft SDR, the KX3.
Someday I want to upgrade to the Elecraft K3S but am unlikely to go back to
a Flex. I like having the knobs and buttons in addition to the ability to
control the rig by CAT commands.

Subject: Flex radios
I wonder if anyone's using a Flex radio. I want to get JJRadio working with
the Flex, and with that in mind, I bit the bullet and bought a Flex 6300. I
am currently able to control frequency and mode with it, using the CAT
commands. They do publish a programming interface to all features of the
radio, and using that will require much work. I could do more with the CAT
commands if anyone would like to use JJRadio with a Flex immediately.
Note that by the CAT commands, I'm referring to the commands commonly used
to control rigs. They're the ones used by logging programs and HRD.
