Mike I just tried it and verified what you said. I don't mess
with the drive button so had to learn to hold it in in order to
replicate your finding. Then I held it in again to return to the
regular mode. Thanks for this, Hope to upgrade my firmware soon,
but scared to do it myself. 73, Jim WA6EKS

Subject: An easy way to monitor that notorious TS590S drive
setting

Here is a trick for those of us who have not yet updated the
firmware
in the TS590S so that the status of the drive setting is spoken.

Some may already know this, but I did not until I turned my drive
setting on deliberately yesterday to see if I could duplicate
Ron's
issue with his tuner.

With the driver switched to on, the tuner in my 590S simply sends
the
low beep that you would hear if you pressed the tune button and
the
antenna was already matched.

It does this regardless of whether or not there is a match. I
confirmed
that by trying it with antenna and band configurations where I
would
normally get the SWR message.

So, if Ron is getting the SWR message even when feeding the radio
into
a dummy load, it may be time for a trip to the radio hospital.
