Microsoft Security Essentials works great, or Windows Defender if you are
running Windows 8.1.

Hello, all.

 

I know this might be considered off topic, but then again, if you get a
virus, and your computer becomes non-functional so that you can't post to
the list, I guess my question can be considered to be  relevant.

 

Anyway, I'm wondering what basic anti-virus prrogram people on the list use?

 

As you may recall, I have had a number of issues with my home Windows 7 PC
this summer, but I think they have now been resolved, and I want to get a
good anti-virus program back on that machine before I start using it
regularly again.

 

I've posted quiries to the two Jaws lists I'm on, and opinions vary widely.

 

I'd prefer a free program, but will pay for one if that would be the best.

 

I've not had the greatest luck with A V G, since the latest update seemed to
slow my system down considerably, and I also found it did not catch
everything.

 

I tried Avast for a while, but the folks at F S suggest that sometimes,
Avast can conflict with Jaws, although I didn't exxperience this issue.

 

Others have suggested Avira,  Viper, Panda, and Microsoft Essentials.

 

I guess sometimes it just boils down to the luck of the draw, but I like to
be as informed about these sorts of things before making a decision.

 

I'm  using Jaws 16 with Windows 7.
