Hi List,
I know this subject has been discussed many times over the months and years
that the list has been in existence. However, for Dustin, I would be remiss
if I did not champion the virtues of the Elecraft line with the HamPod
accessory designed and built especially for Elecraft rigs, most especially
for blind hams in particular.

Kenwood makes a nice lineup of rigs that talk quite a bit, however I think
the jury is still out on which radio is better, either the Elecraft K3, or
the TS590.

As far as accessibility and the class of radio, the K3, and now the K3S,
and HamPod combination are really hard to beat. Our own list member, Rob,
K6DQ, has spent a great deal of time and effort developing programming and
building these little boxes for blind Amateurs. If Dustin is saving his
sheckles for a rig, no matter which rig he settles upon, I would steer him
in the direction of the Elecraft K3 and HamPod combo. I've had mine for 3
years, and find the radio most accessible, and when using the HamPod, and
the decoding features of the K3, I suspect is the only combination that
will open the world of digital communications (R T T Y, P S K 31, Etc.),to
blind amateurs, without the bulk and cumbersome use of a peripheral
computer running a screen reader program.

So, before you make your decision, look at, and even talk to some of your
fellow list members, Dustin, who have gone the K3, or KX3 route,
accompanied with the HamPod. These 2 components make beautiful music
together. And, with the introduction of the K3S, I have seen prices of the
K3 drop a bit, which might make it even more affordable. With the customer
service provided by Elecraft, and the personalized guidance and assistance
provided by K6DQ innovator of the HamPod, your wallet will be singing, and
so will you.

Read more about the HamPod, and all the other pieces of gear it supports at

www.hampod.com.

Good luck in what ever you choose.
