The discussion on whether alt tags or captions are more effective is
worth having, but it leaves me with that same old question. Why does it
always have to be either or. Why must we always pick one thing and in
doing so negate the other. If accessibility and inclusion is reallyh
the intended goal, and not just lipservice to that goal, then how about
both. Each has its uses. Even old fashioned pictures in print books
always had captions. So, the alt tag is analogous to our (blind
people's) pictures. The caption is still useful, and is useful to
sighted viewers too.
