The Accessibility Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the
development, implementation, and successful operations of the
District’s Web and Learning Technology accessibility program to
assure that all district and school websites, learning curriculum
and associated online services are fully accessible for
individuals with disabilities, in accordance with Title II of the
American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504. The
position has overall responsibility to assure that SPS web
services and online curriculum technology/content provide
individuals with disabilities equal opportunity to participate in
and benefit from the district’s services, programs and
activities provided via web-based, digital and emerging
technologies.
Essential Functions:
In coordination with the Student Civil Rights Compliance Officer
consults with and advises district personnel (Department of
Technology Services, Curriculum & Instruction, Communications,
etc.) on best practices and emerging trends & technology in web
and curriculum accessibility opportunities; for the
identification and approval of District initiatives to mitigate
current accessibility concerns; and to develop and execute an
accessibility road-map resulting in SPS fully meeting the
requirements of Title II of the ADA and Section 504. (40%)
Oversees and manages the District’s accessibility training and
awareness activities including the successful design,
development, implementation and maintenance of the District’s
“Accessible Educational Resources Portal” to assure that it
conforms with WCAG 2.0 standards; includes appropriate content
and resources for SPS employees to effectively communication with
students, parents and others with disabilities; and provides
notice to students, parents, and others with disabilities about
the policies, procedures and resources that are available via the
District. (20%)
Coordinates the testing and evaluation of the district’s
current and future web services (district/school websites,
Learning Management System, etc.) and online learning curriculum
to assess compliance with applicable laws and regulations;
provides written assessments to SPS leadership regarding the
results of testing/evaluations; and consults with appropriate
district departments and staff to develop mitigation plans and
activities to address deficiencies identified. (15%)
Develops all appropriate and necessary district policies,
procedures and guidelines for the implementation and maintenance
of a fully compliant and accessible web services/content and
online curriculum architecture. (10%)
Oversees and conducts district-wide accessibility audits to
assure that, at a minimum, current and planned web and curriculum
services meet appropriate standards/laws; that purchasing and
contracting activities are accomplished to assure that 3rd party
vendors and products comply with SPS’s accessibility program
requirements; and that district personnel involved in instruction
or the delivery of online technology content and services are
trained and comply with their responsibilities related to
accessibility. (10%)
Documents and reports to the Deputy Superintendent, or his/her
designee, that all new web applications and/or templates have
been made accessible pre-release; that post-release accessibility
issues/bugs have been remediated; and all other issues or
concerns related to the District’s ability or inability to
fully comply with Title II of the ADA, and Section 504. (5%)
