Hello,
First, you are correct in your thoughts that the iPhone and the iPod
touch are only different in that the iPhone can make phone calls and
text abilities. Second, I have researched Apple.com and found that
they do not say a specific version or generation for the iPod touch.
Also, if you purchase it from apple.com, you will get the newest one.
If you go with a third party site to but it from, pasted below are the
