I was caught somewhat off guard to read that Microsoft is now targeting
this summer for the Windows 10 release and not later in the year as most
of us suspected. By summer we don't know if that means early June or
late August but it's clear that Microsoft is in quite a hurry to get it
out the door. Although I don't have the greatest track record when it
comes to the accuracy of my predictions, I'm guessing we'll see it in
July or August. However, I'm not surprised that Microsoft wants it out
there sooner than later. Windows 8 really hurt them as many users, both
blind and sighted, just weren't feeling the love from that new, shiny,
tile-filled start screen with no start button, although the button
returned in Windows 8.1. With XP becoming obsolete, people were forced
to buy new computers last year and many of them didn't want Windows,
which was good news for Apple as Mac sales actually increased. Microsoft
may indeed have learned their lesson and so Windows 10 will likely be
well-received with a more traditional start menu (we hope) and the
Cortana voice assistant coming to every Windows computer, allowing you
to use your voice to get information and to access your PC's files.
