I've heard activity on the 161&163MHZ NOAA, WX channels only once,
over one week-end, when in the early 90s, on a new to me handheld
scanner with all ten wx channels; while I lived in Asheville NC, and
the skip from coastal NC, SC, and GA, was really pouring into that
area: I realize that may be a stretch, but it did happen, although I
think it's the only time I've ever heard those channels active.
