Hi Mike,
The dr1x repeater is a dual mode repeater, it will do both analog and
c4FM digital and will switch automatically acording to the mode of
transmission sent to it.
The Yaesu digital radios work very well, but like most Yaesu equipment,
they are not very accessible. The vhf/uHf mobile rigs like the FTM100DR
and the FTM400DR can use an optional voice card that does give some
feedback but that feedback is very limited. Yaesu's digital dc to
daylight c4fm rig, the ft9100 does not offer a voice card option.. HT's
give very little beep tone feedback that is usable.
I must say that the audio from a c4fm transmission is far superior to a
dStar transmission which suffers from a low sample rate that strips the
voice of most of its attributes, and dStar repeaters can only do dStar.
