You're a glutton for punishment, so here is some more:
Menus 46 and 47 control audio in and out for the data jack. Default
is (I think) 4, which is mid point. Just be sure neither is set to zero.
You can try turning the data vox on in menu 60, but i'm still not
positive it's needed. But it won't hurt anything. Maybe it will help.
RTTY has been around since Marconi was in short pants and there is no
error correction as in other modern digital modes. You are always
going to pick up some junk, but if it is a constant stream of garbage,
you should probably back down the RX level control on the SL. Turn
it full ccw, then up a bit until you start getting lot's of junk, then
back it off a bit. If set too high, it will overdrive the soundcard.
Also if you ever hear the screen reader say "overflow" or
"overloaded", or whatever it says, it means the RX audio to the
soundcard is way too high.
If you are hearing tones when you hit f9, but the radio doesn't key,
here are a few options, in no particular order:
Did you set com port under the TX tab in setup to "none"?
After installing the interface, did you go into windows as directed and
set things to 100 percent?
Did you tell setup under the soundcard tab to use the USB audio for TX?
