Haha, you got a point there. I was glad to hop on the net, and it was an interesting experience.

Joining is easy, the net control is just that.
Everybody talks through his instruction.
First they will often check for emergency or time sensative traffic, which
means messages.
Then regular traffic, then mobiles, and then regular check ins. Often this
is done by alphabetical segments.
The control tells you when to talk, and turns the frequency over to regular
use when the net is done.
Nets exist for every purpose and for no purpose.
For example here, the Repeater club has a Saturday night "fun net".
Believe me, if you are on your Ham radio at 21-00 on a Saturday night, fun
is not what you are having!!!
That is unless your YL is also a ham, and you are sharing a bottle of wine
and a new radio.

I'll see what I can do to join. I've never joined a net before, so =
interested in rules of the road too.

Hi Sina!

For reading material, I appreciate handihams. They publish things that = =3D
show the wider range of what hams are doing in a daisy format and some = =3D
streaming, as well as nets on Echolink and IRLP, etc. They run a week = long
radio =3D camp in August if you want to mix some work with pleasure. = Check
out http://handiham.org

Hi Sina!

While you debate the relative merits of different radios, etc., you can
begin to enjoy the sounds of hf now using radios around the world using =
=3D =3D3D the free client from http://www.remotehams.com

Glad you have an interest in CW. Although it is a strong mode in the = =3D3D
=3D blind community, it needs help to be preserved generally.=3D3D20

I don't have any hf gear here directly, but you can sometimes practice
reception by listening to repeater IDs. You may also want to take a look =
=3D =3D3D at http://www.qsonet.com that has a very accessible virtual =
transceiver.

Dave

I'll check out soft rock, thanks. I've been playing with a cheap USB =3D =
=3D3D3D =3D3D chip that has the RTL chipset in it, and that's been fun for
sure, = but =3D =3D3D3D =3D3D it's selectivity is all but nonexistent,
*smile*.

Hello Sina.
Very interesting and creative!
Glad to have you on the list.
Thinking, experimenting, and listening are all valued and respected
attributes.
With your interests, the "soft rock" receivers might be very interesting =
=3D =3D3D =3D3D3D to play with.
Somebody on here was talking about accessible SDR software a while back.
Very creative with the switches.

Subject: Introduction From KM4KRR

Hi all,

I joined the list a few weeks back and have been enjoying the =3D3D3D3D
conversations and wonderful personality of everyone on here.

I got my license around 5 to 6 weeks ago. The call is KM4KRR and my name =
=3D =3D3D =3D3D3D =3D3D3D3D is Sina Bahram. I live in Cary, North Carolina.

About my gear and experience:

So far, I've explored channelized FM for the most part. I've got a =3D =
=3D3D3D3D =3D3D =3D3D3D Kenwood TK 762G and a Kenwood TK862G. a buddy
programmed = up =3D repeaters on =3D3D =3D3D3D3D =3D3D3D both for me, with
simplex as well. = I've also been =3D playing with a =3D3D baofang =3D3D3D3D
=3D3D3D uv5r, and in = addition to a slightly better =3D antenna for it,
=3D3D I've =3D3D3D3D currently got = =3D3D3D it hooked up to an antenna =3D
switch which feeds a =3D3D diplexer = =3D3D3D3D going to the =3D3D3D two
kenwoods on A and =3D the baofeng on B. there's just a = =3D3D =3D3D3D3D
folded dipole in =3D3D3D the attic right =3D now, but there's = a comet
gp3 right =3D3D here =3D3D3D3D which I cannot =3D3D3D wait to =3D try = out.
Then I can hopefully dedicate =3D3D the folded =3D3D3D3D dipole to = letting
=3D =3D3D3D me play with packet on 2m. I'm a bit =3D3D of an audio geek, =
=3D3D3D3D so I =3D have one of =3D3D3D my sends from the mixer routed to
=3D3D a box = that my good =3D3D3D3D =3D friend, Tadd =3D3D3D (KA2DEW), put
together for me. = the =3D3D box lets me plug a =3D music =3D3D3D3D
keyboard's foot =3D3D3D peddle into = it, and it has a =3D3D quarter inch to
=3D feed from =3D3D3D3D the mixer and two = microphone cables coming out
=3D3D to feed the =3D two kenwoods, =3D3D3D3D so I can = put =3D3D3D my foot
down when I wish to key =3D3D =3D up on either radio. There's = =3D3D3D3D a
switch on =3D3D3D the box for controlling =3D =3D3D which radio I want = to
speak to.

I would really love to start exploring hf as well, but I don't know = =3D3D
=3D =3D3D3D3D =3D3D3D Morse just yet so CW is out for me for now until I =
rectify that. =3D I'm =3D3D =3D3D3D3D also =3D3D3D not sure how I want to go
= about dipping my toe in the =3D water for =3D3D HF.
=3D3D3D3D =3D3D3D There are so many options!

I'm excited about software defined radio, since that aligns super well = =3D
=3D3D =3D3D3D =3D3D3D3D with my development background, and I love the idea
of combining =3D my new =3D3D =3D3D3D =3D3D3D3D passion for radio with my =
existing passion for =3D code.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you fine folks better, and I = =3D3D
=3D =3D3D3D3D =3D3D3D thank you for the community and for having me on the =
list.

KM4KRR, clear

Take care,
Sina
