I don't know how I fried mine, or how my friend Steve fried both of his
units; and all 3 were at the same time, within about 2 weeks of each other.
Weird!

Alan, I was looking at the ALS600 manual. I don't own the amp but am
interested. Seems like a pretty fool-proof design, over protection from
thermal issues, SWR etc. Don't understand how you can fry the finals.
BTW, am sending you my good thoughts and prayers, Jim WA6EKS

Hello again Tom, I unfortunately fried the finals in my ALS600 and had to
send it back to the factory to fix. My friend Steve, N9HE, sent a pair of
the same amps back to the factory at the same time as mine. The factory
replaced the finals in all three of the amps contemporaneously. They must
be weak somehow.

Well, Alan, at least the ALS600 is not now setting unused on the shelf!
(HI! HI!)

As I indicated in my earlier post, things have just been so busy here with
work and family-related responsibilities, a number of other projects I'm now
involved with, and camping in the RV, that I haven't even touched my ALS600
since the Michigan QSO Party contest in April. Kind of sad!

However, that will change when we get into the Fall and winter months here,
and contesting and other more indoor-type activities take over again for
another year.

Hello Tom,

I finally found a good use for the ALS600. It makes a good intermediate
amplifier to drive the Henry 8K Ultra. The 8K Ultra takes approximately 400
watts to drive it to full output. Since I don't have a 400 watt transceiver
like the Yaesu FTDX-9000MP, I need to increase the output of my 200 watt
Icom to fully satisfy the Henry. Drive the ALS600 to about 375 watts, then
drive the 8K with the output of the ALS600, it works great, HiHi.

Subject: ALS600 Question

To all those using the ALS600:

I was doing some cleaning and re-arranging in the home shack today, and
decided to re-acquaint myself with my ALS600, since I don't think I had used
it since the Michigan QSO Party contest in late April.

Anyway, I am wondering what the "remote" setting on the ALS600 band select
switch does?

For those who have the ALS600, the first six positions cover 160 through 10
meters, with 12 and 10 meters being accessed via the auxiliary position.
The last position on the band switch is after the auxiliary position, and is
labeled "remote".

I can look the info up in the manual, but if someone knows off hand, I'd
appreciate not having to dig through the manual to find it. (smile)
