I have the Pro 97 and the Pro 164.  They are great radios for Conventional
frequencies and are easy to program via the radio.  I also have the Pro 106,
which is Digital.  You can use a program such as Win500 to program it.
I have the Uniden Home Patrol, which is one of the ones that you can put the
Zip Code into.  It is doable via the Home Patrol programming software on
your computer, but this radio does not receive nearly as well as any of the
above radios I mentioned.  It also did not last as well as the other radios
I have.  The Pro 97 has been put through quite a bit of use  since 2007, and
it still works great.  The Home Patrol does not work except for Weather
Alerts, and I only had it for a couple of years.

Eric, scanner are way different now then when they were crystal controlled. 
I have a PSR-500 and a BC245.  The 245 is still a great handheld scanner
that can easily be programmed for conventional frequencies and kind of easy
for some trunked stuff, but it is too old to get the newer trunked bands and
will not do digital.  For that you need one of the newer ones.  I don't have
experience with the kind where you put in your zip and have wondered how
easy those are to use.  I have been in contact with a produce developer
engineer with Whistler to suggest various accessibility features.  All I can
say at present is that I have at least got his attention and a favorable
response from him, a start at least, but only that, no assurances of any

My wife Catherine, KB3WBO who is not on this list is making the inquiry.



She has owned a scanner way in the past that was crystal controled.
