Unless you want the TS-590 receiver performance on HF, it makes sense to use 
a TS-2000 instead of a 590 with a transverter.  The 2000 has that sub 
receiver functionality that is really pretty slick on VHF/UHF, and the 
functionality is integrated into the same unit, more economical on the 
shelf, and very likely more economical overall.
