Maryland will be one of 3 states doing W1AW operations December 17-23. I am
scheduled to be on phone in two shifts:
10 meters from 1200-1500Z Thursday
20 meters from 1900-2300Z Saturday. Don't know what exact frequencies I
would use, nor whether I will need to work split.
Given the conditions, the ten-meter operation will start with the beam
pointed southeast (Might be able to work western Australia or Hong Kong on
the long path at first). As the 10-meter band opens to Europe, the beam
will head northeast and likely stay there for most of that morning shift
(until 10 AM EST).
For the 20-meter operation, I will probably start pointed toward Europe,
look for Africa or Australia, then turn the antenna west and work a lot of
US stations.
I am still getting over a cold, but hopefully I will have enough voice for
these operations. I haven't set up the digital voice recorder board for the
FT950, nor tried running the Signalink interface with audio coming from my
laptop.
Anyway, I hope to see some of you on one of these frequencies.
As for the 10-meter contest, my time is very limited this weekend, so I hope
all of you have a blast if you can participate. These may be the last good
10-meter conditions for this contest for several years. But, of course,
that's what many of us said last year, too.
