While the second part of Dan's suggestion is good as far as it goes, there is one more thing you need to do: select the product under which the .pdf file type should open. About a month or so, I gave steps on how to specify different file types with different apps (software) in Windows 10--but I'm well aware that finding things in old backlogged messages can be difficult. So, here are the steps you need to follow to ensure that the .pdf file type opens in the Adobe software and not in Microsoft Edge:
1) Press Windows Key+I to get into the settings menu.
2) Choose System and press the enter key.
3) Arrow down until you hear "Default Apps" then press enter.
4) Press Shift+Tab three times until you hear "Set Defaults By App"; then press enter.
5) A new window will open up that says "Set Default Programs". Tab to the list of programs (it may take a few seconds to come up), then either use the up and down arrow keys (or press the letter a) until you hear "Adobe Acrobat Reader DC".
6) After putting the Adobe Acrobat program into focus, press the tab key three times until you hear "Choose Defaults For This Program Button" and press enter. (I should note that the second tab down says "Set this program as Default", but I wouldn't go that route unless you wish to have all of the possible file types that Adobe Acrobat can read associated with that program).
7) JAWS should now say "Set Program Associations". Tab down twice until you find the list of possible file types that Adobe Acrobat can read. Use your up-and-down arrows to find the .pdf file type on this list. If, after the file type name, JAWS says "Microsoft Edge", then you will need to hit the spacebar on the check box associated with the .pdf file type.
8) After setting the file type, tab down once to the button that says "Save" and press the Enter key. This will take you back to the list of programs with file types associated with them.
It might be a good idea after associating the .pdf file type with Adobe Acrobat to verify that it is no longer listed as being associated with Microsoft Edge. To make this verification, find Microsoft Edge in the programs list and repeat step 7). Good luck.
