Matt,
I thought you gave up this nonsense and went into stamp collecting.
Your Signal Link is audio only and can only do RTTY in AFSK (audio
frequency shift keying) using the sound card for transmit.
To transmit in RTTY mode which is FSK (frequency shift keying), you
need to ground pin 8 on the remote 8 pin mini din. This is not the
data jack to which your Signal Link is connected, but the one next to
it. This jack is mostly for amplifier control, but also has the FSK
keying pin.
You can ground pin 8 and hear the RTTY diddle generated from the radio
(with TX monitor enabled). In practical terms, you would need to build
or buy another interface that handles FSK keying.
You can set radio to FSK mode and with tx monitor on, hit the ptt on the
mic and you will hear a steady tone. But to get the RTTY tones, you
need to ground pin 8.
You could still use the Signal Link for receive if you wish. Set
your radio to the "R" mode setting, which is FSK, narrow the filter to
the narrowest (250 hz) and see if you have better luck decoding RTTY
signals. If not, stick with what you have. If you find it easier
to decode this way, then you might want to think about some sort of FSK
keying device.
