For reading material, I appreciate handihams. They publish things that show
the wider range of what hams are doing in a daisy format and some streaming,
as well as nets on Echolink and IRLP, etc. They run a week long radio camp
in August if you want to mix some work with pleasure. Check out

Glad you have an interest in CW. Although it is a strong mode in the = blind
community, it needs help to be preserved generally.=20
I don't have any hf gear here directly, but you can sometimes practice
reception by listening to repeater IDs. You may also want to take a look =
at http://www.qsonet.com that has a very accessible virtual transceiver.

I'll check out soft rock, thanks. I've been playing with a cheap USB =3D =
chip that has the RTL chipset in it, and that's been fun for sure, but =3D =
it's selectivity is all but nonexistent, *smile*.

Hi all,
I joined the list a few weeks back and have been enjoying the =3D3D
conversations and wonderful personality of everyone on here.
I got my license around 5 to 6 weeks ago. The call is KM4KRR and my name =
=3D =3D3D is Sina Bahram. I live in Cary, North Carolina.
About my gear and experience:
So far, I've explored channelized FM for the most part. I've got a =3D3D =
=3D Kenwood TK 762G and a Kenwood TK862G. a buddy programmed up repeaters on
= =3D3D =3D both for me, with simplex as well. I've also been playing with a
= baofang =3D3D =3D uv5r, and in addition to a slightly better antenna for
it, = I've =3D3D currently got =3D it hooked up to an antenna switch which
feeds a = diplexer =3D3D going to the =3D two kenwoods on A and the baofeng
on B. there's just a = =3D3D folded dipole in =3D the attic right now, but
there's a comet gp3 right = here =3D3D which I cannot =3D wait to try out.
Then I can hopefully dedicate = the folded =3D3D dipole to letting =3D me
play with packet on 2m. I'm a bit = of an audio geek, =3D3D so I have one of
=3D my sends from the mixer routed to = a box that my good =3D3D friend,
Tadd =3D (KA2DEW), put together for me. the = box lets me plug a music =3D3D
keyboard's foot =3D peddle into it, and it has a = quarter inch to feed from
=3D3D the mixer and two microphone cables coming out = to feed the two
kenwoods, =3D3D so I can put =3D my foot down when I wish to key = up on
either radio. There's =3D3D a switch on =3D the box for controlling = which
radio I want to speak to.
I would really love to start exploring hf as well, but I don't know = =3D3D
=3D Morse just yet so CW is out for me for now until I rectify that. I'm =
=3D3D also =3D not sure how I want to go about dipping my toe in the water
for = HF.
=3D3D =3D There are so many options!
I'm excited about software defined radio, since that aligns super well = =3D
=3D3D with my development background, and I love the idea of combining my
new = =3D =3D3D passion for radio with my existing passion for code.
