Thanks Bob for telling us. I didn't know her personally, but many of us
were aware of her efforts to take the first class radio telephone test which
the FCC was firmly opposed to. She eventually won that right and passed the
test.

And the FCC was nastier than usual in that case, because when the NFB
pointed out that there were other blind people who had their first phones
for a long time which meant it was open to us at one time, they threatened
to revoke all those outstanding held by blind persons. This is very sad.

I have just received the following message about Mary Keener a long time
blind ham here in Iowa that sefveral people on this list knew.
Subject: More Sad News: K0YL SK

Group:

It is with the deepest regret that I must report to the Iowa Section ECs and
DEC's the passing of Mary Keener, K0YL, Iowa Section Traffic Manager. Mary
passed away on Sunday at her home following a heart attack. Please keep
Mary's family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult period.

I do not have any information with respect to services or visitation at this
time. When such information does become available, I'll pass that along.
