Ah, ok, Steve.
This sounds much easier, and with the definite indication of which tuning
mode I'm in, it will take the mystery out of things.
No need for apology, and thanks again for the clarification.
Am going to try semi-auto mode first, since I don't want to be involved with
needless automatic tuning in the middle of a qso.

Boy did I screw up. To change between automatic and semi automatic, you
don't press the "mode" button. Press both the "ant" and "tune" buttons
at the same time. Far left and far right of the top row of 4 buttons
to toggle between modes. Single beep for automatic, and 2 beeps for semi
auto.
Very sorry, it's been a number of years since I've made any changes to this
thing.
