I remember doing that with mine, you could hold the talk button down and 
turn the volume control off and on rapidly, and it would play weird noises 
and sometimes come up with some neat random music.

I bought a replacement probably thirty years ago.  My original one just died 
last year, so I started using the replacement.

It was really good as a chess timer, too.

Jim,

I know the clock has the rubber square hole at one end that I figured
connected to a computer or something the flash the software but I wasn't
aware of other words for vocabulary but I would not be surprised.  I can't
remember it saying something other than just its standard features.
