i use microsoft security essentials on this desktop and previous
desktops for many years and have been virus free, despite Microsoft
not recommending it for primary use!
i have AVG on my laptop because it is free. When it updates it takes
over the processor and makes doing other tasks very slow, but once it
is finished it is not obtrusive. That computer has also remained virus free.
