Sharon,

I've seen things on what you are talking about but not recently. So I don't
know the latest but the ones I have seen allowed the blind person to
recognize shapes in front of them on a table. The miniature camera is
really developing.

Phil.

THANK You Jesus! I'm glad they can do something about that these days.
This month I went to an eye specialist, along with my 2 other housemates.
Caregiver Tabitha and I wanted to know if there was anything that can be
done for me. He doesn't think there's anything going right now, but maybe
in 10 years a camera could be implanted in the back! But I'm sure, since
I've never been able to really see things, my brain couldn't process the new
information flooding in all at once. I read about a young man who had been
virtually blind since childhood, had surgery to restore some vision. It
was quite a struggle trying to recognize things. Enventually he prefered
blindness and died soon after.

That said, I would like to participate in clinical studies, since I have
nothing to loose, and who knows, maybe they'll have a way to start Visual
sensation very slowly, like one pin prick with a black shield, then a bigger
hole, etc. That's sort of how my brain was first introduced to the new
implant generated sounds. I turned it up as high as I could at the time, I
think in a matter of days! I am also interested in the Brain Port, a device
that emits gentle electric stimulation based on the shapes of objects and,
in the case of someone who had lost sight, can experience it as black and
white images! I haven't visited their company in a long time, so I wonder
if there's anything going here in Idaho. I only hope it wouldn't interfere
with the implant system.

Any insights?

God Bless,

Sharon H.
