Hi Steve
I just don't get this concept of owning frequencies.
14300 is an international frequency allocation by the ITU for maritime
safety and emergency traffic.
Apparently half base camp was hit by the avalanche which included some huge
rocks.
It seems unclear if the British guy was actually at base camp or on his way
up to the next one. It seems that he was in support for an ascent.

David,
They did discuss this, but decided against it, partly due to the fact of
a US Maritime net that gets out of sorts if anybody gets close, but
mostly because the Nepal station 9N1AA wouldn't or couldn't go there.
I've certainly heard this kind of emergency stuff over the years, but
still interesting. Also a lot of concern about a British ham living
and working in Dubai (A65DR I think) who was known to be at MT. Everest
base camp when the thing hit.
