You are correct that Paypal can take payments direct from your credit card.
This gives a further line of security here in the UK as the banks will
refund fraudulent transactions.

Mike,

The reason for PayPal is to protect your credit card from sellers. Only
PayPal has your financial information.

Here is how it works.

You sign up with PayPal, it's free.

During the sign up you give PayPal your banks routing number and your
account number.

Next, PayPal will make two small deposits in to your account, something like

3 to 10 cents each.

You then have to log in to PayPal to confirm that the deposits were received

and the amount of each. This is done to confirm that the bank information
is set up correctly.

This procedure gives you a "Verified" status which tells those who you do
business with that your address and bank information is accurate.

Again, the seller does not see anything about your account, all he sees is
your address and that you're verified.

When you purchase something, the funds are removed from your bank account
immediately so you must make sure you have the funds to cover the purchase.

You also give PayPal your credit card information so that in case there are
insufficient funds in your bank account, the credit card will be used
instead. I wouldn't rely on this because if you have overdraft protection
on your account, this could trigger a fee for using the overdraft protection

instead of the credit card.

I believe you can set up the payment to be from the credit card as the
primary source of funds rather than your bank account, however, I am not
positive about this.

Another neat feature of all this, you don't have to provide the seller with
your shipping information because it is all automatically sent to them by
PayPal, all you have to do is to confirm that the amount is correct and tell

payPal to complete the transaction.

I have been using eBay and PayPal for over ten years and have never had an
issue with over 100 transactions.

Many online vendors now use PayPal also so you don't have to provide them
with financial information either.

It's a great system.

Use it, you'll love it for its simplicity.

Oh, get this, its almost 100 percent accessible. There is only one small
issue that I have encountered, however, I will not go in to it now.

I hope this helps.
