I've been looking for a dictionary and thesaurus that would pronounce the
word. I found one for the iPhone for 2 dollars called WordBook, that's all
one word, WordBook. Then I realized all my writing is done on my Mac so I
looked and found the same program for the Mac in the Apple App Store for 5
dollars and downloaded it. The iPhone version is easier, at first, to learn
and to use, than the one for the Mac computer but they are both great. The
app for the iPhone has one little problem. When you tap the button to speak
the dictionary word, it says the word and then the voiceover speech tries to
talk, too. If you do it three or four times, you can eventually get the
pronounced word well enough but on the mac, you can press the control key to
silence speech and press the enter key and make the word speak over and over
as often as you like. Just thought you'd like to know. Oh, by the way, you
can use your own voice to speak the word you are looking up, just like
dictating a text message, and much of the time, it can match that sound but
it isn't 100 percent. If you type in three or four letters, though, it
attempts to match a whole word with a partial word. With the Mac computer,
you can use wildcards, such as a * and the like, and it will give you a list
of several hundred words that allows you to search further if needed. It
goes out online to get the word to pronounce but otherwise, it is a full
blown dictionary and thesaurus with meanings and sample sentences of how the
word is used.

Phil.
