Mike,
I have gone to Dayton for a number of years and it still is fun. I
went alone one year and it wasn't nearly as much fun. There are lots
and lots of people and you will spend a lot of time asking which
seller's booth you are near and probably missing a lot of what you
would like to see. The year that I went alone, there was bus
transportation between my motel and Hara, but now the bus service has
been scaled way back so that option is probably no longer
available. The year I went I eventually hooked up with some members
of my local radio club and then the trip became a hell of a lot more fun!!
For the past number of years I have ridden down with a friend. We
each get a room at the same motel and I ride back and forth with him
to Hamvention and we work the buildings and outside flea market together.
Tom comments that he sees occasional folks with canes and dogs
working the event alone, but were I to have to go alone again, I
think I would take the year off.
Whatever you do, Dayton is an experience. Something that I think
every ham should have the chance to try!!
