> Besides December 7th being the day Pearl Harbor was bomb, it also happens to be the first day I ever attended a school for the blind back in 1964. Of course, the war was many years earlier. Fortunately, I went home on weekends unless we had wrestling tournaments on Saturday. I cried every day; all day. I used to tell myself, I can't wait till bed time. Mom had purchased me a small bear rug the laid atop my pillow. She said I could sleep with it and remember they were all praying for me. I knew it wouldn't work. Crawling in between the sheets that first night, I pulled the bear down next to me and prepared myself to cry myself to sleep. I was in a strange place with even stranger people I didn't know. I waited but the tears would not come. I frankly was disappointed. I was hoping the night filled with tears would wear me out and I'd get over my home sickness sooner rather than later. The second night, I tried crying myself to sleep but that night, nor any other night, would tears come. One day, many weeks later, I thought the experience was strange enough to mention to my mom. She smiled and said, "Philip, I prayed especially that God would be with you during the nights and that tears wouldn't even be able to come. I knew it had to be something like that because even the home sickness wasn't present at night when getting into bed. See? He does care.
