You need to tell the computer which to use as the default sound card.  It 
has been a while, but as I recall, I went to control pannel and then to 
sounds and audio devices.  There are some control tabs, I set audio and 
voice to the internal sound card, my computer uses realtech and usb 
device.

As far as seeing your router, you can get high gain antennas if your 
router has removable antennas.  You can get a range extender or a 
repeater, or you can get a usb wireless device with a much better antenna. 
I can do some searching, there is one I have I bought a cdouple yoears 
ago, not even sure where, but it is very sensative.  I'll look for that 
link.
