I was going to reply only to Denise, but I think this issue is important
enough to address to the group. I bought a large Udi's loaf at our local
Sprouts store (Sprouts is great for GF, by the way!), and found the
consistency and the flavor to be a huge step backwards in GF bread
evolution. Everything Denise says in her post is right on--it is gummy
and gooey, and far too sweet. The old Udi's has a real toothsome texture
that is just right--and of course the big holes are an annoyance, but
I'm OK with them, because the bread tastes good and is satisfying to
eat. The new Udi's is very unpleasant in so many ways. Even when toasted
it is gooey and unappetizing. I have a half loaf left that I just can't
bring myself to use.
I am going call the company this week ( (800-254-3768 for customer
service) and find out what's up--I am sincerely hoping that they will at
least continue to make the small loaf in the old way. I buy those at
Trader Joe's, and it is an important part of my GF diet.
If I can talk to Udi's customer service, I will summarize my discussion
with them.
Best,
Chris in CA
