Hi Tom,

Many  hams used to run 100 watts transceiver power in to their amps and 
relied on the alc feedback coming from their amps to fold back the power 
to what was acceptable for the amps.  I have never done that cause heavy 
ALC use can make your audio signal nonlinear.  I have always reduced my 
power output to my amp rather than relying on the alc feedback from the amp.
