I do remember books that emphasized grade 1 and a half signs, but that grade
has pretty much fallen out of use. But they used to say that if you had a
grade 1 and a half and a grade 2 sign the 1 and a half signs got priority
which is why in older books you see the word year written "Y EA sign R,"
instead of "Y E A R sign." But like I said this whole UEB thing is just a
bunch of needless nonsense that we should have opposed.

And Hi Jackie. Glad to see you on this list. Write me off list if you
would like.

Regarding your first question, they probably shared the responsibility with
frustrated old men who couldn't cut the mustard any more (grin).

I don't remember school books of that vintage, as I was born in '49, but I
do have some other books dated around that period of time. I too hate
British Braille and wish they would just leave it alone. I see so many
young people using computers and recorders instead of Braille any more, it's

pathetic!
